Information NPOpedia obtains regarding a user?

NPOpedia gathers three different kinds of data:

  1. Details about an individual that a user directly gives to NPOpedia when completing the registration form or sending information via a form for a particular request or objective.
  2. IP addresses, tracking data, and other automatically gathered information about how NPOpedia sites are used are some examples of the data that is covered in section 1.2 below.
  3. Cookies, which allow NPOpedia to better understand which parts of its services are most interesting and helpful to its users.

1.1. User-provided data:

Depending on how the user utilizes the Services, NPOpedia may gather various types of information from or about the user. The examples that follow should help users better understand the data that NPOpedia gathers.

When an individual register with NPOpedia and utilizes its services, NPOpedia obtains the information they voluntarily submit, such as:

  • - Registration Data: To utilize specific features (such as accessing specific contents), an individual must first register with NPOpedia. NPOpedia stores information such as the user's email address, password, address, educational role, institute name, preferred language, gender, date of birth, and mobile number ("Registration Data") when the user registers and provides personal information, or updates personal information later.
  • - Information About Content Usage: NPOpedia may gather information about a user's access to courses, assignments, workspaces, labs, quizzes, and other materials.
  • - Information about user accounts on other platforms/services: If a user clicks on any links or accesses NPOpedia Services via a third-party platform or service, the collection, use, and sharing of that user's data will also be governed by the privacy policies and other agreements of that third party.
  • - Communications and Support: When a user contacts NPOpedia for assistance or to report an issue, NPOpedia may gather and retain the user's contact details, messages, and additional information about the user, including name, email address, location, and any other data provided. In compliance with this privacy policy, NPOpedia uses this data to address the user's inquiry and investigate her/his concern.

1.2. Automatically gathered information

NPOpedia may automatically gather certain information when a user uses its services (including browsing content). This information may include:

  • - System Data: This is technical data, such as the IP address, device type, operating system type and version, unique device identifiers, browser, browser language, and other systems and platform types, about the user's computer or device ("System Data").
  • - Use Statistics: This part includes data on how users use NPOpedia's services, including the contents they view, the duration of time they spend on pages or the service, the pages they visit, the features they utilize, the search queries they make, the time and date they do so, and other usage statistics ("Usage Data").

The information mentioned above is gathered via tracking technologies and server log files, as detailed in the section below on "Cookies and Data Collection Tools.". The data is kept and connected to the user's account.

1.3. Data collected with cookies

Cookies are small data files that are installed in a user's browser and are used by NPOpedia to collect, store, and share information about the activities of users on different NPOpedia websites. Through these, NPOpedia is able to record details about the user's visits, including preferred language, preferences, etc. in order for NPOpedia to display individualized content or services to them upon their return. For additional information about cookies, go to https://cookiepedia.co.uk/all-about-cookies.

2. How NPOpedia obtains user data?

NPOpedia collects the above mentioned data via the use of cookies.

2.1. Data collection tools

When a user accesses and uses the Services, NPOpedia and its in-house Analytics tool use server log files and automated data collection tools like cookies (already covered in section 1.3 above) collectively referred to as "Data Collection Tools." The Data Collection Tools are designed to automatically monitor and gather specific System and Usage Data (as mentioned in Section 1) from users of KNOWLEDGE HUB's services.

2.2. Why NPOpedia uses Data Collection Tools:

NPOpedia uses data collection tools to do the following tasks –

  • - Strictly Necessary: These data collection tools allow users to access the website, perform basic functions (such as logging in or viewing contents), enhance site security, guard against bogus login attempts, and identify and stop abuse or unauthorized use of user accounts. If the user disables these, certain parts of the site might malfunction or not function at all. They are necessary for the Services to function properly.
  • - Functionality: The user's browser and preferences are remembered, extra site functionality is offered, content is tailored to the user's interests, and settings that influence the look and feel of the services (such as the user's preferred language) are remembered.
  • - Performance: These data collection tools provide usage and performance statistics, visit counts, traffic sources, frequency of visits, and other information that helps measure and improve the services. With the use of these tools, NPOpedia can test various NPOpedia versions to discover which features or contents users find most appealing and to identify other performance-related aspects.

A user's web browser can be configured to notify him/her when someone tries to install cookies on the computer, to restrict the kinds of cookies that are allowed, or to completely reject cookies. The user's experience may differ or become less functional if they choose to do this, and they might not be able to use all or some of the Services' features. See Section 6 (User Rights) below for more information about administering Data Collection Tools.

3. How does NPOpedia utilize user data?

NPOpedia uses user data for providing its services, interacting with users, resolving problems, protecting against fraud and abuse, updating and improving its services, tracking user behaviour, and complying with legal and governmental requirements. NPOpedia utilizes the information it obtains from users who utilize its services for the following purposes:

  • - Provide and manage the services, such as facilitating participation in educational activities, issuing certificates of completion, and displaying customized contents;
  • - Managing user accounts and preferences;
  • Assisting with technical issues, such as identifying unique users across devices, securing the services, and preventing fraud and abuse;

  • - As required or authorized by law;
  • - As NPOpedia , at its sole discretion, deems necessary to ensure the safety or integrity of its users and services.

4. Who NPOpedia might disclose user information to?

Researchers, NPOpedia affiliates, and other select groups may be the only people with access to certain user data that NPOpedia shares. Additionally, NPOpedia may divulge user information in connection with a transfer of ownership, security measures, and legal compliance with regulatory bodies.

The issue of sharing data with outside parties for analytics and data enrichment does not come up because NPOpedia uses its in-house analytics tool for service improvement.

NPOpedia may share users' data with third parties under the following circumstances or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:

  • - With Other Researchers: The sharing of a user's profile information and shared content with other researchers may be permitted, based on their settings.
  • - With Service Providers: Email and hosting services, certain content or service providers, user support, and other services are just a few examples of the service providers with whom NPOpedia may share user data. To deliver the services that users have requested, these service providers may access user data.
  • - For Security and Legal Compliance: NPOpedia may disclose users' data to third parties if (in its sole discretion) beliefs that the disclosure is:
    • -Permitted or required by law;
    • -Requested as part of a judicial, governmental, or legal inquiry, order, or proceeding;
    • -Reasonably necessary to enforce its Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and other agreements;
    • -Required to detect, prevent, or address fraud, abuse, misuse, potential violations of law (or rule or regulation), or security or technical issues; or
    • -Reasonably necessary in its discretion to protect against imminent harm to the rights, property or safety of NPOpedia, its users and employees.
  • -During a Change in Ownership: Should NPOpedia be transferred to a third party, resulting in a change in ownership, NPOpedia may share, disclose, or transfer all user data to the successor organization either during or in anticipation of such a transition (including while conducting due diligence).

5. NPOpedia 's measures to safeguard users' privacy

NPOpedia takes the necessary security precautions to guard against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of the personal information that users provide to it and that it stores. Depending on the kind and sensitivity of the data, these steps change. But no system can ever be completely safe. NPOpedia therefore disclaims any liability regarding the security of user-NPOpedia communications or any information it may gather via its services from unauthorized access by third parties. It is the user's duty to safeguard their password, which is a crucial component of the security system. Users should always use strong passwords and never share them with third parties. They should also change their passwords right away if they think their account has been compromised.

6. Users' privileges/Rights

Users have the option to withhold certain data from NPOpedia; however, doing so may prevent them from using some features of the NPOpedia Services. The user may have control over cookies and other local data storage options depending on the browser or device they use. See https://cookiepedia.co.uk/how-to-manage-cookies for additional information on cookie management. The instructions for managing in-app tailored advertising differ between Apple iOS, Android OS, and Microsoft Windows. The user should check the privacy settings on that platform for other devices and operating systems.

7. Contact information and updates.

NPOpedia may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If NPOpedia makes any significant changes to it, it will notify users via a notice that is placed on its websites or as mandated by relevant laws. A synopsis of the main adjustments will also be included. Changes take effect the day they are posted on their websites, unless otherwise indicated.

A user will be considered to have accepted the updated Privacy Policy if they access or use NPOpedia Services after the date on which any updates go into effect. The updated Privacy Policy takes precedence over all earlier versions.
